What a celebration! Together with the MGH Pusteblume and many other participants from Halle-Neustadt, we hosted a block party on May 8, 2026. The green space behind the Pusteblume Multigenerational House became a block party oasis, and there was so much to see and discover.
A treat for the ears: The Kinderliederbande made their world live debut at the block party with funky songs for people of all ages who love to dance. Mati Mehlhose kept us grooving with laid-back disco beats from the turntables.
All About Books: At a trilingual reading (German, Arabic, Russian) hosted by the Stadtbibliothek West, children and adults listened to the story of why the badger is in a bad mood. Books to take home were up for grabs at the Human Fruit Slot Machine, from the team of the WIR Festival, which also offered plenty of fun and excitement. Thanks to book origami, participants created their own works of art from old books.
Around Halle-Neustadt: UnserHaneu celebrated a special moment at the block party. The website for events and projects in and from Halle-Neustadt officially went live! Many other organizations from Halle-Neustadt provided information about their projects and invited visitors to chat over a cup of tea: Elternkompass, Dr. Data, Horizonte, Wedang, Quartiersmanagement Halle-Neustadt, and many more.
All About Crafts and Movement: There was plenty of painting, writing, and crafting. People and faces were painted at the “Malmaschine” by the Rand & Band Collective, Arabic characters were drawn with the Islamic Cultural Center Halle/Saale, and ceramics were made at the pottery stand run by the Pusteblume Multigenerational House. People pulled funny faces at a fascinating media installation: at “Ectoplastic,” the sound of music could be influenced by facial movements. At “Gerüste der Republik,” visitors marveled at climbing structures and designed their own dream climbing frames; they played table tennis; and, together with the “Dornröschen” Children’s, Youth, and Family Center, they blew giant soap bubbles and ran around together on the large lawn. The Freiraumgalerie provided information about its artistic projects and murals in public spaces and, through its plant swap, helped make homes, balconies, and the surrounding streets a little greener.
The TWISTER food truck, also from Halle-Neustadt, provided us with great food!
Together with over 400 people, we celebrated moments of connection and togetherness. We would like to thank everyone involved who helped make this block party possible. A special thank you goes to the Pusteblume Multigenerational House for hosting the event in Halle-Neustadt.
