A cooperative art festival for 60 years of Halle-Neustadt.
To mark the 60th anniversary of Halle-Neustadt, we will artistically design all 48 pillars of the lower level of the Neustädter Passage for pedestrians in September 2024 as part of a cooperative festival. The pillars will be painted by various artists and as part of workshops by Neustadt residents and civil society actors in the district. A uniform color concept forms the creative bracket, while the choice of motif and style on the respective pillar is free. The title “48 Pillars of Society” invites all participants to address the question of what sustains us as a society in a place of urban transformation and social change and thus forms the curatorial theme of the art festival. The festival also offers an exciting program with workshops and the ceremonial inauguration of the new artwork.
The Neustädter Passage is the center of the formerly independent city of Halle-Neustadt and lies at the foot of the five characteristic Scheiben high-rise buildings. With its two levels for pedestrians and bridges, the passage forms a highly interesting urban and architectural complex and is at the same time characterized by the social and urban changes of recent decades. With the artistic redesign of all the pillars in the Neustädter Passage, a unique cooperative Gesamtkunstwerk will be created for the center of Halle-Neustadt as part of the festival.
“48 Säulen der Gesellschaft – Ein kooperatives Kunstfestival für 60 Jahre Halle-Neustadt” is an art project by Freiraumgalerie – Kollektiv für Raumentwicklung, sponsored by Wall & Space e.V. We would like to thank the sponsors of the project: the City of Halle (Saale), the Fonds Soziokultur, the Wüstenrot Foundation and Caparol.
