The HaNeon – Art & Light Festival, taking place on October 2, 2026, and October 3, 2026, will draw significant attention to the lighting situation in the Neustädter Passage in Halle-Neustadt. Even after the festival, this issue requires further attention. This is where the open call for an artistic light installation in the Neustädter Passage comes in. Freiraumgalerie and Wall & Space e.V. have issued a call for the development of ideas and concepts for an artistic light installation in the Neustädter Passage that will both improve the lighting conditions on site and meet artistic standards.
A selection committee has chosen three ideas that will be further developed leading up to the HaNeon – Art & Light Festival:
Carsten Henrion: Walking Through the Windows
Yannick Schreck: Liquid Light
Jaro Seemann: Companions—and Paths We Did Not Anticipate.
The ideas will be presented to the public as models, prototypes, or presentations as festival entries at the HaNeon – Art & Light Festival. Festival visitors can vote on which submission best suits the Neustädter Passage.
Following the festival, the committee will meet again—this time to select the most compelling design, taking the visitors’ vote into account, and submit it to the City of Halle (Saale). Unfortunately, implementation cannot be guaranteed at this time; funding options will be explored after the festival concludes.
We would like to thank our committee for providing us with expert guidance in selecting the submissions!
The open call is taking place as part of the “WLAN Sculptures” project, which is a component of the Smart City Halle (Saale) pilot project under the “Smart HaNeu” initiative.
